Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA)

Digital literacy is one of the important mandates of CSC under the Digital India programme. CSCs have been striving to bridge the digital divide by providing digital literacy training to six crore citizens in rural areas, particularly focusing on women, youth and marginalised sections of society, through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA). So, far several citizens have been trained in use of digital devices like computers and smart phones, to access information online and make digital payments through the scheme.

The Scheme empowers citizens in rural areas by training them to operate computer or digital access devices (like tablets, smart phones etc.), send and receive e-mails, browse Internet, access Government services, search for information, undertake cashless transactions, etc. and hence enable them to use the Information Technology to actively participate in the process of nation building. The Scheme aims to bridge the digital divide, specifically targeting the rural population including the marginalized sections of society like Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST), Minorities, Below Poverty Line (BPL), women and persons with disability.
