Spoken Tutorial
The Spoken Tutorial project (at IIT Bombay) is an initiative funded by the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.
The project focuses on delivering e-learning IT courses on various Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The main objective of this project is to promote IT literacy for education and improve the employment potential of learners in India, using FOSS (Free and Open Source Software).
The audio of Spoken Tutorials courses is available in all 22 official languages of India, with the video always in English. Self-paced, multi-lingual courses ensure that anybody with a computer and a desire for learning can learn from any place, at any time and in a language of their choice. Many of the software taught, are used in various disciplines of Engineering, Pure Sciences and several other Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate studies. These can be extended to Commerce, Arts and Management streams as well. Alongside these, there are some courses relevant at School level, too, which help school students to visualize difficult concepts of Math and Science. These can also be used by Teachers to prepare lesson plans, explain abstract concepts and give digital assignments to students.
More than 75 IT courses are available under this initiative covering topics under programming, Operating systems, Database, Graphics/animation, etc., basic coding for school children, Java, HTML, MySQL, PHP, C, C++, 2D/3D graphics animation, Python, Perl, Ruby, Linux, and many more.
Features
- Students, Staff & Teachers from Schools, Colleges, Universities, Polytechnics, ITIs, Skill centers, NGOs – all can avail these courses at very affordable fees including Certification.
- The method is Active learning on Computer systems and very suited for Remote/Distance Education.
- Teachers & students can master the software courses on their own, at their own place of work or at CSC academy centre or at their own time.
- Once one gets started any student or faculty can master the Software Course and on successful passing of exam get Certificate.
- Candidates who are “Teachers” in College/School/other Institutes will be eligible to get the “Faculty Development Programme” Certificate.
- UG, PG or Research scholar students and even teachers of Science, IT, Engineering, Commerce, Management, MCA disciplines can learn any of the FOSS.
- Most of these courses can be practiced on Windows platform/software or on FOSS platform/software.
- CSC Academy centres will act as the proctored examination centres for the courses.
Plans and Business Models
All the e-learning content is available in the Spoken Tutorial website without any charge, candidate can study but certificate is not available. In order to get the prestigious joint Certificate from Spoken Tutorial project at IIT Bombay, student need to register through CSC Academy centres only.
CSC Academy Centre that registers under the specific Annual subscription plan can charge fees as per market potential and provide the student with - use of the computer resources, local faculty guidance, and proctored exam facility.
Plan 1: Annual Registration Plan – All Courses
• This model is available to Colleges, and CSC Academy centre will act as one Unit (College).
• Annual Registration Fee for the course is Rs 27,000/- (inclusive of GST) for any number of Student registrations in a year.
• Fee to be paid in four equal Quarterly installments of Rs 6,750/- each.
• VLE can decide and charge students depending on training support they provide.
• This subscription also includes School level courses.
• VLE can enroll any number of students in one year
Plan 2: Annual Registration Plan – School Level
• School Level course will be included in this subscription.
• This model is available to School, and CSC Academy centre will act as one Unit (School).
• Annual Registration Fee of Rs 6,000/-
• VLE can decide and charge students depending on training support they provide.
• This Subscription includes School level courses only.
• Students enrolled as full time students in a school are eligible.
• VLE can enroll any number of students in one year.
